John
Basko (b. 1953, Johnstown, Pennsylvania) is an oil painter
working from a live/work studio in a single room occupancy hotel in
Times Square, NYC. He has been painting full-time since 2015. His
main interest is expressing the human face.
His
lifetime body of work has developed over a period of four decades,
using moving images
previously. He has made 2 feature length films, and innumerable
short films. He has also worked as an expatriate television news
cameraman, living in the USSR, El Salvador, Honduras, South Korea,
Philippines, and Thailand. After 10 years, he returned to the United
States and attended New York University, receiving
a
certificate in narrative filmmaking. He had been addicted to
drugs and alcohol for much of his life. He has been sober since year
2000.
